Alex Winter Named President of Hake’s
Alex Winter has been working as General Manager for Hake’s Americana & Collectibles since 2006. His career with the company dates back to 1985 when he was just 16 years-old. Winter was born and raised in York, Pennsylvania, home of Hake’s Americana. He went to William Penn High School, then moved on to Yorktowne Business Institute.
Winter is a collector of any and everything. His main collections include comic books, records, pin-back buttons of all types, original art, Disneyana, and autographs. He does not isolate his collection, rather he picks up items that interest him, and regardless of the genre he is happy to add new items to his collection. Winter’s favorite collectible is a signed copy of Miles Davis’ Sketches of Spain album that includes a small sketch Davis added of himself playing the trumpet. It is the only such signed Miles Davis item Winter has ever seen. Collectibles he would love to own someday are a Jimi Hendrix signed album and an original George Perez cover of The New Teen Titans.
Next year Winter celebrates 30 years with Hake’s Americana & Collectibles. He has held several positions with the company each with increasing responsibility, as the Merchandise Manager, then Production Manager, before he became the General Manager two years after Diamond International Galleries, LLC acquired Hake’s Americana. In his new position as President of Hake’s Americana, Winter’s main objective is to ensure Hake’s continued growth. During his tenure as General Manager Hake’s saw its first million dollar auction, which was followed by multiple auctions of that caliber, making the last few years the most successful in the company’s 47 years. His goal is to continue down this path while maintaining Hake’s stellar reputation as America’s first and foremost pop culture auction house.
“We are simply parlaying off of the success of the last two years,” Winter said regarding changes the company is making. “That has allowed us to grow and expand. There is plenty of competition in the auction game but few have the legacy that Hake’s does. Ted started things in 1967, Steve Geppi helped take us to a new level, I am trying to continue this while also building the staff for many more decades to come.”
