Scoop reader and comic art collector Rob Pistella has contacted us regarding a lost piece of art. He purchased this rare hand colored Krazy Kat daily by George Herriman in an auction a few weeks ago.

It is particularly rare for many reasons, including the fact that unlike most hand colored dailies that were water-colored, this one is colored in pencil or oil crayon, as Herriman did for mostly specialty pieces towards the end of his life. The piece is inscribed to “Lee Falk Mitt Luff” and was sold through auction, by Falk’s widow.

The item was shipped via insured Fed Ex by the auction house and was very well packed. Unfortunately, it has been claimed lost by Fed Ex in transit, which means the piece is now considered either lost or it has been stolen.

Should anyone be offered the piece anytime in the future, or know of its whereabouts, please contact Rob by emailing him at robpistella@mac.com.
