Following the success of the first four episodes of Gotham, Fox has commissioned the series for a full season order. This increases the episode amount from the originally-announced seven to a full 22.

The series focuses on James Gordon’s earliest days at the Gotham City Police Department as he works to track down the person responsible for killing Bruce Wayne’s parents. Gotham also explores the origins of many of Batman’s most famous villains, including Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, and Poison Ivy.

Part of the reason the show may have gotten a full season order may be because Gotham’s premiere experienced a massive Live +7 ratings boost, which is Nielson’s rating service that looks at who watched the show on their DVR within the first week of release. The first episode of Gotham got a 2.7 ratings boost from Live +7, which took the series from 3.3 to 6.0 in the 18 to 49 demographic, and took the total number of viewers from 8.3 million to 14.1 million.
