Amongst the many big announcements made at New York Comic Con, one is sure to stand out for fans of giant fighting robots. The entire Mobile Suit Gundam franchise will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in the United States, including a few series that never got an official English adaptation. Sunrise, the series’ Japanese animation studio, announced this as part of a deal with Right Stuf, the American distribution company.

The Gundam franchise started in 1979, and celebrated its 35th anniversary earlier this year. The Gundam universe spans multiple universes and storylines, with the original and longest-running known as the “Universal Century.” Mobile Suit Gundam Wing is easily one of the more popular Gundam series in the United States due to its airing on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block in the late 1990s.

The original Mobile Suit Gundam (Also known as Gundam 0079) will be the first rerelease in the U.S. by Right Stuf, followed by Turn A Gundam and Gundam ZZ, which have previously not seen an official English release. Right Stuf has previously released remastered DVD sets of other older series such as Revolutionary Girl Utena.
