Rob Riggle Cast in Dead Rising Film
Dead Rising: Watchtower, the upcoming film based on the successful gaming franchise, has found its lead in Rob Riggle, according to a report by Polygon. Riggle has been cast as Frank West, the game’s photojournalist protagonist who found his way trapped in a shopping mall with a horde of zombies.
Riggle is a former Daily Show correspondent and has previously starred in films such as 21 Jump Street and Let’s Be Cops. The Dead Rising film will be debuting on Sony’s streaming video service, Crackle, which is available for Playstation and Xbox platforms – fitting, given the story’s origin in a video game.
Dead Rising was originally released in 2006 for the Xbox 360 and had the player controlling Frank West as he investigates a zombie outbreak. While the two sequels do not have Frank West as the main character, the spinoffs, Off the Record and Chop ‘Till You Drop, do. The popularity of Frank West in gaming has led to his appearances in other games, such as Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Project X-Zone, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, and the Lost Planet franchise.
