In Memoriam: Brian Clemens
British writing icon Brian Clemens passed away over the weekend. He was 83 year-old.
Clemens was born in Croydon in 1931. He did his first commissioned work for BBC in 1955, then worked as a staff writer for a film and TV production company. He wrote the pilot of The Avengers with Patrick Macnee, wrote scripts for The Baron, The Persuaders, The Protectors, The Invisible Man, Bergerac, and Danger Man which led to the show The Prisoner. He also wrote for Remington Steele, Highlander, The New Avengers, and Perry Mason. His film scripts include And Soon the Darkness, See No Evil, The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and Highlander II: The Quickening.
Clemens was honored by The Queen in 2010 for services to broadcasting and drama. He was involved in The Elstree Project, an on-going oral history project, and according to his son George at the time of his passing he was working on horror film with George and his brother Samuel. Clemens’ son Samuel stated that the last thing his father did was watch an episode of The Avengers. The brothers and their mother Janet created a Facebook page to honor Clemens.
