Pedigree Comics’ upcoming Grand Auction will feature what is considered to be the world’s #1 CGC graded collection of Harvey Comics. The auction is scheduled to begin in just over one week on the night of Monday, January 26, 2015 and last for ten days until the night of Thursday, February 5 as a separate event on the Pedigree Comics website. The first half of lots will end on the night of Wednesday, February 4 and the remaining half will end on February 5. There is no Buyers Premium on any of the lots in the auction and every item will have no reserve. Every book is CGC graded and there is no minimum bid for this special Harvey Comics Auction. You can view over 750 lots in the Auction Preview right now. Just go to the Pedigree Comics website and click on the Grand Auctions banner.

Each week prior to the auction, Pedigree’s CEO and President, Doug Schmell, who obtained this massive collection of approximately 800 CGC graded books on consignment, will spotlight an important run from the collection. This week’s focus is on Tuff Ghosts Starring Spooky. It is the world’s #1 CGC Registry Set and a very “tuff” one to find in high grade. There are a bunch of very difficult to find issues in the set and every book (save for #1) is a Harvey Publications File Copy. Amazingly, most of the books are the single highest graded copy (including every issue between #3 and #10, except #9 which is tied as the highest). There are 30 issues in the set accounting for 69% of the run, which went up to issue #43. The next highest set, with 1,938 points, has only 27% of the total issues. The consignor’s set has 4,304 points, more than double the second highest one. Tuff Ghosts Starring Spooky hit the newsstands in July 1962 with issue #1 and lasted until October 1972.

Here are some of the highlights from the #1 CGC Registry Set of Tuff Ghosts Starring Spooky #1 8.0, #3 9.8 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #4 9.6 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #5 9.6 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #8 9.6 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #9 9.6 File Copy (Highest Certified), #10 8.5 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #13 9.6 File Copy (Highest Certified), #15 6.0 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #17 9.4 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #18 9.4 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #22 9.2 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #30 9.4 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #33 9.6 File Copy (Single Highest Certified), #34 9.6 File Copy (Highest Certified), and #36 9.8 File Copy (Single Highest Certified).

Check the Latest News section of the website plus Scoop next week on Friday, January 23 for all the latest additions to the Harvey Comics Auction, including a few incredible pieces of original art by noted Harvey artist Warren Kremer, including the covers for Friendly Ghost Casper #37 and Little Dot #102, which will be available to bid on and purchase in the auction.

If you have any questions or comments about the consignment process, any of the auction lots or about the Special Harvey Comics Auction in general, contact Mr. Schmell at (561) 422-1120 (office) or (561) 596-9111 (cell) or at DougSchmell@pedigreecomics.com.
