On Friday, October 9, 2015, Metropolis Gallery opened their new show The Masters of Fantasy, featuring original art by Frank Frazetta, Jeff Jones, Greg Hildebrandt, Ken Kelly, Michael Golden, Phil Hale, Bernie Wrightson, and many others.

Metropolis COO Vincent Zurzolo and Metropolis Curator Rob Pistella curated the exhibit, their second New York City art show, following the successful showcase on Frazetta this year. The opening coincided with New York Comic Con, bringing in over 150 passionate comic art fans.

“We had a wonderful crowd of fans and clients, we served good food and drinks, and enjoyed viewing some fantastic art,” Zurzolo said.

Pistella also said that the opening was a success.

“Even with the torrential rains, we had over 175 attendees for the opening,” he said.

Not only does the gallery present the chance to see some beautiful comic art, Metropolis also sells pieces there. During the opening night their sales totaled $250,000.

“We were thrilled. We sold art by Frazetta, Hildebrandt, Kelly, and [Mark] Texeira,” said Pistella, who noted interest was also expressed for other art.

Greg and Jean Hildebrandt were among those in attendance.

“So many fans were thrilled to meet Greg and Jean,” Zurzolo said. “Greg gained fame with his huge body of work including Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and so much more.”

The show will run for two months, giving people plenty of time to see it and make purchases.

Next up for Metropolis Gallery is a partnership with Albert Moy for the show The Art of John Cassaday, exploring the new Star Wars comics series at Marvel.

“The art is beautiful and I think there will be a lot of collector interest,” Pistella said.

They’ll open that show on Friday, November 13 at 6 PM with a party, including food and beverages.
