Supergirl Review: Livewire
Note, there are spoilers ahead for those who haven’t watched Monday’s episode of Supergirl.
Ah, Thanksgiving that special time of year; a time when we willingly invite family over to criticize all our life decisions. I’m glad to see not even aliens are exempt from this wonderful tradition.
This week’s episode of Supergirl provided just enough cameos and comedy relief I managed to actually enjoy myself. Best line of the night by far was Dean Cain announcing “I know everything there is to know about Superman.” If you don’t know why that’s funny, I’m so sorry for you.
But I especially enjoyed this week’s villain, the snarky radio host Leslie Willis who had some clever, albeit harsh, words for Supergirl. Naturally, I loved her, she had me at “chastity belt of steel.” Unfortunately, Cat Grant didn’t share my opinion and despite their history, demoted Leslie to traffic reporter. While reporting Leslie finds herself in need of Supergirl, who then unintentionally gets her struck by lightning, leaving Leslie in a coma. I can’t imagine she’ll have anything nice to say about Supergirl after that.
Except Leslie isn’t in a coma, but rather has gained electric powers and coined herself Livewire. With Livewire on the loose and out for Cat’s blood, Kara has little time to worry about the tension mounting between Alex and their mom, Eliza. Using a modified trap along with the unlikely help of Cat, Kara aims to put a stop to Livewire and her citywide blackouts. Kara’s quick thinking leads to the capture of Livewire, who ends up in custody at the DEO.
During a refreshingly awkward family dinner Alex reveals her job at the DEO, much to her mother’s dismay. Alex believes her mother is once again disappointed in her, but she’s really just worried about her. Eliza informs the girls that her husband, Jeremiah, traded himself to the DEO, specifically Henshaw, to protect Kara.
It was while working for Henshaw that Jeremiah later passed away. Kara and Alex are determined to find out what really happened to Jeremiah and uncover any other secrets the DEO is hiding. If I was them I’d start with why Henshaw’s eyes keep glowing red. Just saying. This week’s episode was my favorite one yet, I sincerely hope the writers continue down this snarky path next week.
