There are several favorite Christmas movies playing on repeat at this time of year. Among the classics are many animated hits featuring the likes of Mickey Mouse, the Grinch, and Charlie Brown. In their upcoming December 13-14, 2015 Animation Art Signature Auction, Heritage will give fans of A Charlie Brown Christmas the opportunity to own art from the film.

They’ll be selling a group of production cels and key master pan production background setup from A Charlie Brown Christmas. The art features the iconic moment when Linus explains the real message of Christmas while Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang carry their little Christmas tree outside.

“It’s not bad at all, really,” Charlie Brown famously says of the tree. “Maybe it just needs a little love.”

The grouping of production cels and the original key master pan production background from that very moment in A Charlie Brown Christmas is being offered for the first time at auction. The lot is estimated to sell for over $35,000.

A Charlie Brown Christmas is, quite simply, one of, if not the most influential TV cartoon special in all of history,” said Jim Lentz, Director of Animation Art at Heritage Auctions. “This year marks the 50th anniversary of the special, which has shown every year since it first debuted on December 9, 1965. On top of that, Vince Guaraldi’s jazz soundtrack for the show has become an integral part of Christmas music.”

Plenty of other Christmas art will appear in this auction, even the Grinch in a production cel setup from Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas. It comes from near the end of the movie when the Grinch sees all of the Whos in Whoville holding hands, singing, and enjoying Christmas despite his attempt to destroy the holiday by taking their gifts. The art is estimated at over $5,000.

“This is an incredibly rare hand-painted 16 field production multi-cel setup,” said Lentz, “taken from a key scene from the classic animated holiday special.”

Mickey’s Christmas Carol will also appear in the auction on a production cel on master background setup of Uncle Scrooge for the 1983 holiday feature. The hand-painted production cel of Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer Scrooge is on the master hand-painted background of his house. It is expected to sell for over $5,000.

Other highlights include a Hanna-Barbera at King’s Island publicity cel and drawing, Mickey’s Christmas Carol production cel and key master production background setup, The Night Before Christmas Santa Claus production cel, Mickey’s Christmas Carol Uncle Scrooge McDuck concept art, Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas Grinch production cel setup, Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol Jacob Marley production cel, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Charlie and Lucy production cel setup with animation drawings, and more will appear in the auction.
