During their recently completed Auction #222, Hake’s Americana & Collectibles achieved their best sale yet, with a total exceeding $1.75 million. The auction was filled with a wide-ranging bevy of historical and pop culture collectibles to reach this new plateau. Many key highlights came from the Star Wars Collection of Russell Branton.

Auction #222 featured the inaugural offering from Branton’s collection that comprised action figures, playsets, toy vehicles, and proof cards. The incredible selection of memorabilia scored several top spots in the auction.

The Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi 12-back-A double telescoping action figure AFA 80 realized $76,700. This piece from the Kenner 1978 toy line is incredibly rare, as few double telescoping action figures were produced.

The Luke Skywalker 12-back-C AFA 95 (yellow hair) brought $50,622 ‒ more than doubling the estimate of $10,000 to $20,000. The Luke Skywalker figure on an unpunched card was made for Kenner’s ’78 toy line. It is exceedingly difficult to achieve a grade that high, accounting for the incredible price.

The Power of the Force Anakin Skywalker painted Dynacast hardcopy prototype rounded out the top three sales from the Branton collection. It sold for $34,981, well over the $10,000 to $20,000 estimate. The full painted hard resin figure was eventually used in Kenner’s ’85 toy line.

The Empire Strikes Back – Imperial Forces three-pack series 1 AFA 75 clinched $17,133. From Kenner’s 1980 line, this piece houses Bossk, IG-88, and a Snowtrooper. On an unpunched card, it is the rarest of the three-packs.

Another three-pack that achieved impressive results was the Star Wars – Creature Set three-pack series 2 AFA 80 which cleared $5,185. Featuring Hammerhead, Walrus Man, and Greedo on an unpunched card, this piece came from the 1979 Kenner line.

The Palitoy Return of the Jedi – Boba Fett tri-logo AFA 80 hammered at $11,682. The tri-logo unpunched blister card from the ’83 Kenner line was released with English, Spanish, and French text.

An Empire Strikes Back – Stormtrooper 31-back-B proof card AFA 90 cleared $8,047 over the $2,000 to $5,000 estimate. This piece from the 1980 Kenner line is an unpunched card, is rarely seen, and difficult to find.

Another popular proof card was the Power of the Force – Lando Calrissian 92-back proof card AFA 90, which cleared $5,717. The hand-cut card with four square corners lacks the punch hole and has a blank back. It was made for the 1984 Kenner line.

The Power of the Force – Yak Face Canadian 92-back AFA 85 was another top lot from Branton’s collection, reaching $7,788. This Kenner ’85 piece was only released in Canada and Australia on this card. It is one of the most coveted Kenner Star Wars figures.

One of the high selling Star Wars vehicles was the TIE Fighter AFA 85, which brought $7,139 over the $2,000 to $5,000 estimate. The TIE Fighter toy vehicle from the ’78 Kenner line has flashing laser light and space sounds.

All results include the 18% buyer’s premium. Collectors interested in seeing all of the results from Branton’s collection and the rest of Auction #222 can view them at hakes.com.
