One of the many joys comic books offer is the great battle scenes that artists put together. It’s even more fun when collectors can own a piece of that original art and they now have the chance to do so in ComicConnect’s auction, which features pages by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko.

Kirby’s explosive style and breathless pacing set the tone for Silver Age Marvel and beyond. Page 9 from Avengers #3 features the brutish strength of the Hulk pitted against the tactical skill and perseverance of Iron Man. Here, Kirby has his hands full, and delivers a socko fight page that is one of the all-time classic superpowered punch-ups. “This is a glorious page from the great one’s peak period, a tempting treasure for any serious collector of the House of Ideas,” shared Vincent Zurzolo, co-founder of ComicConnect.

“Ask any Spider-Man artist of the past 50 years and they’ll tell you they’re standing in the shadow of Steve Ditko,” Zurzolo continued. “This master artist’s deceptively simple, assertive style defined the look of the Web-Slinger forever, giving comics readers a lithe, young, vibrant hero who stood in sharp contrast to the stocky, stodgy, middle aged ubermensches of comics past.”

As Steve Ditko, a bit of an eccentric genius, often tossed or even destroyed his own superhero pages, preferring the stark beauty of his more political and philosophical work, finding original art from his most-beloved period is damnably difficult. “We are honored to offer this incredible page 18 from Amazing Spider-Man #12, one of the master’s very best action sequences,” Zurzolo said.

Featuring the fearsome Doctor Octopus, surely the most Ditko-esque of the original Spidey rogues gallery, this page is non-stop action, with our friendly neighborhood superteen in every single panel, and dynamic events throughout.

“The violence, and mayhem of this battle are palpable, and art students will marvel at how much motion and weight Ditko portrays with the simplest of lines,” Zurzolo added. “Truly astonishing masterclass in storytelling, and one of the most remarkable and beautiful pieces of art we’ve ever offered.”

The auction ends Monday, December 4, 2017 starting at 7 PM ET.
