ComicConnect has two sessions left in this week’s auction. On August 28, 2018, the New York-based auction house sold a restored Action Comics #1 CGC 8.5 for over $261,427. They currently have an important Superman lot ending this Friday, August 31.

“The Superman ashcan edition is arguably one of the most important comic books in existence,” said Vincent Zurzolo, COO of ComicConnect. “It’s the first time that the iconic Superman logo ever appeared on the cover of a comic and for 80 years that logo has appeared on not only comic books but on tens of thousands of consumer products.”

The Superman logo was created by DC Comics designer Ira Schnapp, who devised many, if not the majority of the logos for DC comic books well into the 1960s. Ashcans were quickly and cheaply printed proof copies compiled by comic publishers to assure copyright for a planned title, only a handful were usually printed, with most of them discarded after copyright was attained.

“Ashcans are essentially the missing links of comic history, they are extremely valuable and sought after amongst rarity comics collectors,” Zurzolo added.

In addition to the Superman ashcan, the auction house is offering additional Golden and Silver Age keys. These include Detective Comics #27 CGC 7.5 R, Incredible Hulk #1 CGC 7.5, More Fun Comics #73 CGC 8.0, Startling Comics #49 CGC 9.6, Superman #1 CGC 0.5, and X-Men #1 CGC 9.0.

The final two nights are scheduled as follows:

Session 4 (Dagar Desert HawkMore Fun Comics #62) August 30
Session 5
(More Fun Comics #70 – Zoot) August 31

ComicConnect’s deadline for their next catalog auction is September 10, 2018 at 12 PM ET. They can be contacted by calling (212) 895-3999 or by emailing their staff at support@comicconnect.com.

The entire auction can be viewed on ComicConnect’s website.
