Agent Carter Character to Appear in Agents of SHIELD
Enver Gjokaj is stepping back into his Agent Carter role of Daniel Sousa to guest star in the seventh and final season of Agents of SHIELD. Entertainment Weekly gave the first look at his return to the character that he played for two seasons on the Marvel series.
“It wasn’t anywhere near my brain. I would’ve been thrilled at any moment for it to come back, but I think as an actor you don’t have time. You just have to move on to the next project,” Gjokaj said on his character’s return.
The shows have never aired a major crossover, aside from flashbacks since they are set in different time periods, with Agent Carter set in the 1940s and Agents of SHIELD in the present. However, the high-tech/fantasy SHIELD has added a time-travel element to their stories.
For SHIELD’s season 6 finale, the team traveled back to 1931 in New York City to stop the Chronicoms from attacking their agency at different points in time. This affords them the opportunity to meet Sousa during his time period, who was last seen in the Agent Carter series finale where he was running the SSR’s Los Angeles bureau.
“One of the things we think is so fun – especially with Coulson, who’s just a fanboy for SHIELD history – is them just getting to walk right into [that history],” co-showrunner Jed Whedon said. “With Sousa, we had a good opportunity to hit that note with Agent Coulson.”
“Since Jed and I worked with him on Dollhouse, we’re very aware of what Enver is capable of. So, we were just feeling like we could dive a little deeper with Sousa,” co-showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen added.
Agents of SHIELD will return on Wednesday, May 27 at 10 PM ET/PT on ABC.
