ComicConnect’s Event Auction #44 Art Results
In addition to ComicConnect’s high profile results Scoop reported last week, the down ticket results were very strong as well, according to COO Vincent Zurzolo.
Some other notable results were a drawing of Superman by Jim Lee and Scott Williams used as part of the cover to Wizard #31 for $9,300, a page from the Silver Surfer graphic novel by Jack Kirby for $7,500, the Kirby splash page from Tales of Suspense #66 for $6,670, the cover to Creatures on the Loose #24 by John Romita for $6,100, and a color concept illustration by Bernie Wrightson for the Heavy Metal film for $5,902.
“We understand that the big expensive pieces get all the headlines, but art across the board did very well in the auction,” Zurzolo said. “As a collector myself, the upward trend in comic art prices is exciting to see, as an auctioneer, I’m overjoyed for my consignors and thrilled for the new owners.”
Also performing well were Dale Keown’s variant cover to Guardians of the Galaxy #13 for $4,800, a page from X-Men #155 by Dave Cockrum for $4,500, Bill Sienkiewicz’s painted cover to Anachronisms for $3,950, a page from Detective Comics #482 by Jim Starlin for $3,655, Herb Trimpe’s reimagining of the cover to Hulk #181 for $2,757, a page from Amazing Spider-Man #227 by John Romita Jr. 2,500, the first and second Tales of the Green Beret strips by Joe Kubert for $2,050 and for $1,950, and a page from Marvel Team-Up #10 by Jim Mooney for $1,500.
“Hammer prices blew away our expectations practically across the board, which is great for the long-term investment potential,” Zurzolo said. “If you’re looking to sell anything, there’s never been a better time and our staff is happy to assist in any way they can to help you get the most for your collection.”
ComicConnect is actively looking for consignments for their first auction of 2021 and offers tax free cash advances. They can be reached at micahs@comicconnect.com for appraisals of potential consignments or with any questions.
