Warner Bros. has confirmed that the third Wonder Woman movie is already in the works. The news came just a few days after Wonder Woman 1984 was released in theaters and premiered on HBOMax.

The film has been put on the fast track and will be written and directed by Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot.

Wonder Woman 1984 has scored the highest box office opening weekend during the pandemic with $16.7 million at the domestic box office. Combined with Canada, its total was $36.1 million, and it grossed $19.4 million in the second weekend at the international level.

Nearly half of HBO Max’s subscribers watched the movie on Christmas Day when it was released, according to WarnerMedia. They also stated that total viewing hours that day were triple the amount of other days.

“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real life Wonder Women – Gal and Patty – who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.
