The Batman Flies to $134M Box Office Debut
Batman may be vengeance to the criminals of Gotham, but for theaters, he’s a verified hit. The Dark Knight’s newest solo film, The Batman, pulled in a $134 million opening weekend at the domestic box office. This total landed above the $128.5 million opening that Warner Bros. had projected.
With this total, The Batman has achieved the best opening of 2022, and following Spider-Man: No Way Home, is only the second movie released during the COVID-19 pandemic to surpass $100 million in a single weekend.
Internationally, The Batman grabbed $120 million, giving it a global total of $254 million.
This movie marks the first Warner Bros. film released exclusively in theaters since 2020. In 2021, their entire slate of films had dual release in theaters and on HBO Max. Moving forward, Warner Bros. plans to release movies in theaters for 45 days before dropping on HBO Max.
Starring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz, The Batman is set during the Caped Crusader’s early days of crime fighting. The young detective battles the Riddler (Paul Dano) and Penguin (Colin Farrell) in his pursuit of ridding Gotham City of corruption.
