The first Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer used the opportunity to pay tribute to late actor Chadwick Boseman by showing how his family and his country were grieving his loss. That somberness continues in the new trailer while also providing introductions of new characters and story points.

The trailer catches up with Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright), Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Dora Milage leader Okoye (Danai Gurira), Jabari leader M’Baku (Winston Duke), and spy Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) as they honor T’Challa.

It introduces Namor (Tenoch Huerta), who rules over the ocean kingdom of Talocan (a new kingdom created for the film inspired by Mayan culture), and is set on attacking the surface world. The trailer also features Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominque Thorne), the brilliant American teenage inventor who creates her own supersuit inspired by Tony Stark.

It ends by showing the new Black Panther, and while it doesn’t reveal who is in the suit, it’s clearly a woman, and signs point toward Shuri. She was Black Panther in the comics, the mask on the new suit has a makeup design similar to Shuri’s, and in the trailer, Queen Ramonda’s voice can be heard commanding “Show them who we are,” which mirrors a line she said to T’Challa in the first movie.

Ryan Coogler returned to direct Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which debuts November 11, 2022.
