Artist Kim Jung Gi passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from a heart attack. According to his social media, Jung Gi was at an airport readying to fly to New York for New York Comic Con when he started having severe chest pains and was rushed to the hospital. Jung Gi was 47 years old.

“After having done so much for us, you can now put down your brushes. Thank you, Jung Gi,” the statement reads.

Jung Gi was known for crafting sweeping art of landscapes and detailed characters. He was born in 1975 in South Korea and earned a Master of Art and Design at the Dong-Eui University of Busan. After serving in the army for two years, he drew comedy comics for the manhwa magazine, Young Jump.

From 2007 to 2017, Jung Gi published six sketchbooks with his most popular art. He worked on comics and graphic novels like SpyGames, Paradis, Tiger the Long Tail, and Third Humanity, and for American comics, he was known for his cover art on titles like The Flash and Civil War II.

Jung Gi was also known for sharing videos that showed the complex and lengthy process he undertook to create his art. One of those videos earned him a Guinness World Record for longest drawing by an individual.
