The secondary comic market regularly ebbs and flows as book sales go through moderate changes, and occasionally see big jumps (or falls) in value. Overstreet Access tracks these changes through diligent research into the market and via assessment of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide marketing reports. Those changes are routinely updated on OverstreetAccess.com’s Recent Value Changes page, which can be viewed with a membership to the website.

Green Lantern is one of DC Comics’ earliest superheroes whose reach has extended far into the cosmos and a fleet of other characters. But before the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians of the Universe, Martin Nodell and Bill Finger gave us Alan Scott. The first Green Lantern was a railroad engineer who found the magic lantern, crafted the ring, and became a superhero.

Alan was a popular Golden Age character who was a founding member of the Justice Society of America. Like most superheroes of his time period, Green Lantern took a backseat when popularity for their titles declined. He has made several notable reappearances and reinventions over the years and his collectability in the comic book market has continued to thrive.

Overstreet Pricing Editor Yolanda Ramirez did a recent value update of Green Lantern #1 (September 1941). Ramirez updated the value in Near Mint- / 9.2 grade to $101,000, reflecting a $3,000 and 3.1% increase. Collectors can now view prices above the 9.2 level on Overstreet Access; Green Lantern #1 at 9.8 is now up to $808,000.

The book isn’t Alan Scott’s first appearance, but it is one of his biggest keys. Green Lantern #1 was his first self-titled comic and features a two-page retelling of Green Lantern’s origin. It features a story and art by co-creators Finger and Nodell, and the first comic appearance of President Ulysses S. Grant.

Overstreet Access users can find the Recent Value Changes by clicking on the “Search Titles” tab in the Quick Navigation bar on the home page. Then click the green “Recent Value Changes” button on the “Titles” page.
