Jessica Jones is investigating a tough case in the new Jessica Jones: Alias limited series by co-creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. The latest tale about the tough private detective/superstrong superhero is releasing in time for her 25th anniversary. David Mack, the cover artist on the original series, is also back to produce his instantly recognizable painted covers for the new book. The five-issue series starts in December 2026.

The series will put Jessica on a case “unlike any she’s tackled before,” according to Marvel. After her dramatic time as New York City’s first lady, Jessica wants to go back to the familiar ground of investigating a case. It starts with Jessica trying to find a missing child that she suspects is a mutant. What appears to be a basic abduction case takes her out of Hell’s Kitchen and into strange and rarely seen areas of the Marvel universe.

“Jessica’s responsibility to herself and to her cases and the kind of case that only Jessica can do has evolved as she has evolved. So, an anniversary is a great opportunity to create a case that allows Jessica to re-explore the Marvel universe,” Bendis told Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis and Gaydos introduced Jessica Jones in Alias #1 (November 2001) under Marvel’s MAX imprint of more mature content than the regular Marvel line. Jessica gained powers when her family crashed into a military vehicle that was transporting radioactive chemicals. She became superstrong and durable, she can fly, block mind control, heals at an accelerated rate, and is a skilled fighter.

Jessica spent some time as a superhero, but it was when she opened a private detective agency that Jessica really thrived. Not only did she prove to be a great detective, Jessica’s superpowers helped her neutralize threats and protect people who were victimized.

“Jessica has, since her debut, been something very different in my life,” Bendis said. “There’s something very emotional and intimate about the way [people] talk about her. It’s always been the best kind of conversation you could ever hope to have with readers. People see themselves in her and love her and root for her. All of that is in this series.”
