ComicConnect has sold Fantastic Four #48 CGC 9.9 for $431,250, setting a new sales record for the Marvel key. This is the sole copy graded at Mint 9.9.

Fantastic Four #48 introduces Silver Surfer as the herald of Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, who shows up at the end for his own debut. The Silver Surfer is a tragic figure with a unique look who would become a hero in Marvel comics. Given his gigantic size and insatiable appetite, Galactus quickly became one of the publisher’s most formidable villains. This comics tale would later be adapted for the recent introduction of the latest big screen Fantastic Four team in 2025’s Fantastic Four: First Steps.

ComicConnect sold the book during their Event Auction 67. The winning bid of $431,250 easily sets a new sales record for the book, and quadruples the previous sole six-figure sale of Fantastic Four #48 from 2021.

“We knew that this Mint copy of Fantastic Four #48 was going to bring in an unprecedented price,” ComicConnect President Vincent Zurzolo said. “Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created an epic comic book arc that transcended the superhero genre to find acclaim as a classic sci-fi story. We’re still surprised at the range of collectors who joined in the bidding to ensure this book’s place as a real pop culture collectible!”

This sale follows another major record set by Metropolis/ComicConnect in 2026. In January, they sold a copy of Action Comics #1 CGC 9.0 in a private sale for a record $15 million. They also sold a 7.0 copy of the book for $5 million in a direct sale from their website, setting a record for the grade.

ComicConnect also set new sales records in April with original art from the “Death of Superman” story arc from 1992. The auction closed with over $10.2 million in sales, and Dan Jurgens’ cover art for Superman #75 joined the ranks of million dollar art.
