The secondary comic market regularly ebbs and flows as book sales go through moderate changes, and occasionally see big jumps (or falls) in value. The comic medium has published licensed content from many sources. In modern times, it’s usually movies or TV shows, sometimes toys or books. In the earlier days of comics, it was radio shows and comic strips like Boots and Her Buddies. Created by Edgar Martin, the strip centered around Boots, a young woman in college who was described as the “Sweetheart of the Comics.” The “buddies” in the title typically referred to her romantic suitors. The slice of life strip ran from 1924 to 1968.

Boots and Her Buddies made the transition into comics in September 1948, starting at issue 5 because the new book took over from a previous title. Published by Pine Publishing, it only lasted for five issues, ending with issue 9 (September 1949). Overstreet Pricing Editor Yolanda Ramirez did a recent valuation update of the title and found that the short run of Boots and Her Buddies has seen healthy growth in the secondary market.

The first issue, Boots and Her Buddies #5, has gone up to $750 in the Near Mint-/9.2 grade, showing a $150 and 25% increase. Issue 6 and issue 8 have each been revalued to $300, marking a 50% increase. The seventh issue is now priced at $350, reflecting $75 in growth. Issue 9 has seen a $125 bump in value and is now up to $975 in the 9.2 grade.
