Marvel Studios had a big presence at D23, the annual Disney fan event, dropping major news and bringing several stars from their movies and shows. Their announcements included revealing more cast members in the next X-Men movie, a fresh look at Avengers: Doomsday, and a trailer for VisionQuest.

Avengers: Doomsday

The Avengers: Doomsday coverage included a special look at the film, a new poster, and appearances by stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell, with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. The fifth Avengers film brings together familiar heroes from three different universes to face the cataclysmic threat of Victor von Doom. Downey has switched from hero to villain to portray the formidable Doctor Doom.

Evans and Atwell talked about returning to the MCU after their happily ever after scene at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Then Hugh Jackman and an off-screen Ryan Reynolds crashed the panel with a video message asking if they can join the cast to bring Wolverine and Deadpool into the fray. They also revealed the new teaser poster that shows Doom with his cape flowing and a mostly profile look at his mask and costume.

The special look video is narrated by Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) who tells her new allies about the man Victor was and the one he became after suffering loss. It shows a surprised Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) asking Victor if he was responsible for the devastation that he had witnessed. Then Doom can be heard telling our heroes that they have lived “stolen lives” and now they “must give them back.” The new footage culminates in Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) unsuccessful attack on Doom and the villain raising an army of giant Sentinels.

Avengers: Doomsday is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (the duo who helmed Endgame). It stars the massive cast of Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Winston Duke, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Mabel Cadena, and Tenoch Huerta Mejia.

Avengers: Doomsday will be in theaters on December 18, 2026.

VisionQuest

Paul Bettany and James Spader joined Feige on stage to reveal the first trailer for VisionQuest. The Disney+ series sees the return of Bettany as Vision and Spader reprising his role of Ultron, bringing a conclusion to the events that began in WandaVision and continued in Agatha All Along.

The series starts with Vision rebooting and escaping the people who want to use him as a weapon. Vision tries to find a new path for himself by consulting his embedded programing that includes J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., and even Ultron. A bounty is put on Vision, and he ends up on the run with Thomas Shepard, a boy who might by Vision’s reincarnated son. While trying to avoid being captured and used, he tries to figure out who Thomas is, confront Ultron’s influence over him, and explore his own nature.

The first trailer for VisionQuest starts with the human-looking Vision working in a pub, then he enters his own mind palace and things become surreal. The aspects of his programming appear in human form, where he revisits Vision’s heroism as an Avenger and contemplates his connection to that original Vision. He also ponders the family he had with Wanda and is confronted by the possibility that his magically created sons might actually be real.

VisionQuest debuts on October 14.

X-Men

Feige took the stage with X-Men director Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*) to present the new incarnation of the mutant team. They were joined by Sadie Sink, who talked about joining the franchise following her debut as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The trio then brought out the new X-Men cast that includes Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Emma Frost, Christopher Abbott (Wolf Man) as Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, and relative newcomer Maya Boyd as Storm.

Adam Driver joined the panel via video to reveal that he will play Nathaniel Milbury, aka Mister Sinister. Driver confirmed that he and Feige had been discussing him joining the MCU for years and said that now is the “perfect film at the perfect time.”

The untitled X-Men movie is scheduled for release in theaters on May 5, 2028.
