The fourth issue of Fury of Firestorm revealed that the accident that turned Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein into Firestorm was no accident. In fact, the whole event was orchestrated and executed by Stein himself. He risked Ronnie's life and his own to turn them into a metahuman.  

Ronnie and Stein separated, leaving Ronnie with the Firestorm matrix, which has become sentient and has suppressed Ronnie's consciousness. The Firestorm matrix has gone on a terrifying rampage, transforming and murdering people with no care for humanity. And he has big plans for this world and all the others. Lorraine tracked down Stein and he has created a device that can separate Ronnie from the Firestorm matrix, but it is a very dangerous mission. 

I have mixed feelings about the new Fury of Firestorm. On one hand I don't like that Professor Stein is a bad guy, even if it does follow the most recent continuity in Doomsday Clock. On the other hand, the creative team of writer Jeff Lemire, artist Rafael De Latorre, and colorist Marcelo Maiolo are telling a good story.  

This issue starts with a charming flashback from when the Justice League invited Firestorm to join their ranks. Readers get to see Green Arrow, Black Canary, Hawkman, and Martian Manhunter in classic costumes, and enjoy Ronnie's charming awkwardness around the veteran superheroes.  

Much of the issue centers around Lorraine's attempts to break through the Firestorm matrix and reach Ronnie, as the trapped Ronnie remembers a long ago battle. It's a tense, fast-paced issue with major consequences on the action side and on the emotional side.
