Jesse Chambers, aka Jesse Quick, is a legacy hero in DC Comics. She is the daughter of Golden Age heroes Liberty Belle and Johnny Quick, who has super-speed and strength like her parents, and she can fly. A regular ally of the Flash, she has been in the Justice Society of America, Titans, and the Justice League.

Len Strazewski and Mike Parobeck created Jesse Quick, introducing her in Justice Society of America #1 (August 1992). Her story began when Johnny Quick taught his daughter how to make the enhanced speed formula, and she gained her speed. Instead of becoming a superhero, Jesse opted to continue her education at Gotham University. She chose to write her thesis on superheroes when the Justice Society returned to action and shadowed them to learn about their exploits. While following the team, Jesse stepped in to help and took on the mantle of being a superhero herself.

During her early days as a hero, Jesse met Wally West and he confided that he wanted her to become the next Flash. Unfortunately, Wally only asked her because he wanted Bart Allen/Impulse to take his role as a speedster more seriously and hoped to generate jealousy in the young hero. Jesse felt betrayed by what Wally did, but she still saved his life when he needed her. She was injured in the process, so when Wally returned from the Speed Force he healed her leg and Jesse let go of what happened in the past.

Not long after that reconciliation, Jesse lost her speed and blamed Wally because he was using the Speed Force directly instead of just tapping into it like other speedsters. Savitar was the real culprit behind the problem because he cut the connection between the Speed Force and several speedsters. Wally asked the depowered Jesse to help him confront Savitar and she was able to regain her powers. In the ensuing battle, Johnny Quick died saving Jesse and he merged with the Speed Force.

After that, she took over running Quickstart Enterprises, her father’s company, and joined the Titans to prevent a nuclear attack. When the team disbanded after the deaths of Lilith Clay and Donna Troy, Jesse put her main focus on Quickstart Enterprises. Zoom defeated Wally with his superior speed, so went to Jesse for help and she found a way to share her powers with him so that he could run faster than light to stop Zoom. Transferring her speed left Jesse powerless and robbed her of the knowledge of how to make the formula that could restore her speed. Since Wally knew the formula he offered to tell her, but she refused, choosing instead to slow down.

Jesse didn’t stay on the bench for too long. She started operating as Liberty Belle in One Year Later, she was part of the Blackest Night event, and most recently appeared in DC Rebirth stories.
