San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H was bathed in green for the Lanterns panel. The DC show’s co-creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King took the stage with series stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Poorna Jagannathan, and Garret Dillahunt.

They started by talking about being fans of Green Lantern comics and their devotion to making the show the best they can for the fans.

They revealed that Sinestro will be in the show, but he is not the main antagonist. The new trailer shows the Yellow Lantern in what appears to be a space jail, though he clearly knows what’s happening outside of his cell – particularly about Hal and his new apprentice.

Manhunters are the main antagonists in the series, and the trailer reveals that they can look like anyone. During the panel, a clip showed Hal Jordan interrogating one of them who is wearing the face of a former football player. Hal asks him about well known pro players and memorable games, but then the alien comes up short when Hal asks about Harry Potter and Barack Obama. The Manhunter said that he had a powerful explosive in his head, turning a comical moment into something more intense.

Mundy shared that Laura Linney will play one of the Guardians in charge of the Green Lantern Corps. He said that her character has a lot of advice for John about being a Green Lantern, and Pierre said that “she’s like an auntie.”

Nathan Fillion surprised the crowd by crashing the panel and showing a clip from his appearance on the show. He was wearing a shirt that said “Best Gardner Ever” displaying Fillion’s commitment to the goofy, cocky side of the character.

In the last clip shown during the panel, Hal and John are in the middle of a fight when a bright red light appears and a siren goes off. The clip ended before revealing the source of the light, but it could mean that Red Lanterns will appear in the series.

Lanterns will start streaming on HBO on August 16, 2026.
