Hake’s has offered thousands of vintage Star Wars action figures and other toys in their premier and special auctions, setting many world records along the way. Their July Premier Auction continues to present some of the most sought after and rare Star Wars figures with over 250 lots up for bid.

The Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi 12-back-A AFA 85 figure with the double-telescoping lightsaber and SKU on footer is one of the most important Star Wars production pieces to ever hit the auction block. “Double-telescoping” refers to the lightsaber that has a second extendable piece that was only produced in the earliest figures. This is just the fifth carded example that Hake’s has offered, and their last example (an AFA 85 from the Jeff Jacob Collection) realized $105,182 in January 2025.

The Empire Strikes Back “Collect All 32 Figures” bell hanger advertising store display sign AFA 90 is the rarest bell hanger of all vintage Kenner Star Wars toy lines, and the first one that Hake’s has ever offered. This double-sided die-cut bell-shaped display sign features Kenner’s first 21 Star Wars action figures as well as introducing 11 “new” Empire Strikes Back figures, including Lando Calrissian, Bossk, Yoda, Snowtrooper, and IG-88. Not only is it in high grade, no other example has sold publicly in the last 10 years.

“The Empire Strikes Back introduced audiences to a slew of new and iconic characters, so it was only natural that Kenner would do their part in introducing these newcomers to consumers in action figure form. Who wouldn’t want updated Luke and Leia figures? How could any kid pass up figures of Yoda, Lando, or IG-88?” Hake’s Senior Consignment Manager Mike Bollinger said. “This striking store display helped retailers let customers know they were in the right place to find these new and exciting action figures.”

Hake’s is selling a selection of early Kenner prototypes, including a Star Wars: Droids Jessica Meade First Shot AFA 80 for an unproduced action figure, a Death Squad Commander First Shot AFA 50, a Darth Vader with prototype double-telescoping lightsaber AFA 40, and a Princess Leia Engineering Pilot with a Pre-Production Cape AFA 85. An Empire Strikes Back Power Droid proof card, a rare Revenge of the Jedi AT-AT proof sheet, and rare unused logo sheets for Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Jedi are also in the auction.

The Jawa 12-back-A AFA 85 is the vinyl cape variety produced before the cape was replaced with one made of cloth. The Power of the Force Anakin Skywalker 92-back AFA 85 is one of only 15 examples at the grade. Another rare piece is the Turkish Uzay Blue Star figure AFA Qualified 50, which is one of the unlicensed figures using the title “Stars War.”

Some of the high value loose figures are the Hong Kong double-telescoping Ben Kenobi figure AFA 80 and Darth Vader AFA 75.

Highlights continue with a 1979 Millennium Falcon AFA 80+, Star Wars: Droids Boba Fett AFA 90Y, Empire Strikes Back Boba Fett 48 Back-C AFA 85, Princess Leia Organa 12-back-A AFA 85 (SKU on footer), Han Solo 12 back-A (small head) AFA 95, Empire Strikes Back Zuckuss card with Ree-Yees figure AFA 80, Empire Strikes Back box flat for IG-88 12” figure AFA 85, and Luke Skywalker (Hoth Battle Gear) 45-back quality control sign-off AFA 70.
