Veteran comics editor Stephen Wacker has been hired as the new Editor in Chief of Marvel Comics. He is assuming the role as current Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski is moving to Japan to be the Editor, Asia Originals for Marvel.

Wacker has a long history in the comics industry as an editor and collaborator with some of the best talents in the industry. He worked at Marvel for 15 years, seven of which were spent as senior editor on comic runs like “Brand New Day” and “Superior Spider-Man” in Amazing Spider-Man. He was the editor on Daredevil, Hawkeye, the relaunch of Captain Marvel, the introduction of Kamala Kahn/Ms. Marvel, and It’s Jeff.

He has also spent time in Marvel’s animation, television, and digital media divisions. Wacker co-produced the Emmy nominated Rocket & Groot animated series in 2017 and served as a co-executive producer on animated series like Avengers Assemble, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy. He was also an executive producer on the Wastelanders audio series.

Outside of his work at Marvel, Wacker was an editor at DC Comics and was the Editor in Chief for Jonathan Hickman’s worldbuilding project, 3W3M. More recently, Wacker co-founded entertainment studio Stone Kite and he guided their storytelling on multiple formats as the Senior Vice President, Media.

Cebulski became Marvel Editor in Chief in 2017 and has served the third longest tenure in Marvel’s history. During his time in the position, he recruited top creator and new talents including Skottie Young, Pepe Larraz, March Checchetto, and Peach Momoko. He oversaw nearly a decade of Marvel comics, including the relaunch of the Ultimate Universe and the “Krakoan Age” of X-Men comics.

Cebulski led Marvel’s biggest manga partnership with Shonen Jump that featured titles like Deadpool Samurai and Spider-Man: Octo-Girl. He introduced Marvel’s Stormbreakers talent program to find the next generation artists, and Marvel’s Art Atelier training program for new talents that is co-run by Disneyland Paris.
