Titan; $6.99

The Doctor Who: Circuit Breaker multimedia event follows the Fugitive Doctor in a story told across audio dramas, novels, comics, and mobile games. It starts when familiar alien artifacts in UNIT's Black Archive are corrupted by energy that threatens to destroy all of reality. Osgood, the Head of the Black Archive, and her assistant, Andrew, have contacted the Fugitive Doctor. They send her on a mission to return the objects to where and when they belong, and remove the dangerous energy to close the tears in reality.

Since she is the earliest known incarnation of the Doctor, she has no knowledge of the objects or affiliation that could make her contact with them turn too timey wimey. So, when the Doctor's next mission is to take a Dalek weapon back to its home, her first question is: what's a Dalek?

That is one heck of a starting point considering the long history between the Doctor and Daleks. The creative team of writers Dulce Montoya and Dan Watters, artist Roberta Ingranata, and colorist Valentina Bianconi explore that topic by showing her reaction to seeing the weapon and the Dalek's design, her assumption about how dangerous they are, and whether or not she can reason with them. It's a different approach to a Doctor Who/Daleks story with drama and a touch of humor.

This incarnation of the Doctor is different from the ones that Osgood and Andrew have encountered in the past, which adds tension to the comic. Because she doesn't have the weight of their memories and experiences, she doesn't seem to be taking the situation as seriously as she should. It's an example of how the Doctor Who franchise can shift in tone from one Doctor to the next keeping things fresh and interesting even after 60 years.
