Mike Mignola Art Book Due in November 2026
Mike Mignola’s art will be showcased in an exhibit at the Philippe Labaune Gallery in New York City during the fall of 2026. An official companion book is being published for the exhibition, and will also be available in the fall. Circus of Bones: The Art of Mike Mignola will be published through a partnership between Act 4 Publishing and Skybound and Image Comics.
The book is filled with 144 pages featuring over 145 examples of original art. The book has 60 published covers and pages, and more than 30 new pencil and ink drawings. It also contains 53 new watercolor paintings that Mignola created exclusively for the gallery event.
“I’m very excited about this book – especially the color pieces,” Mignola said. “All of these are new, done entirely for this show, and represent what I think is some of the best work I’ve done.”

Mignola is the type of comic book artist whose work is easily recognizable. He draws minimalistic lines and deep shadows, employing gothic elements for stories set in horror, supernatural, and fantasy tales. Mignola is well known for creating Hellboy and a shared universe that includes the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.), and supernatural characters like Abe Sapien.
He has been working in comics since the early 1980s with other notable work in Dark Horse titles like Baltimore and The Amazing Screw-On Head, he drew covers for the Batman “Death in the Family” story arc, and illustrated the Gotham by Gaslight one-shot. Mignola was an illustrator on the Bram Stocker’s Dracula film, he provided character designs for Batman: The Animated Series, and he worked closely on the Hellboy movies.
“It’s been thrilling for me to see Mike Mignola’s work evolve over the past 40 years,” Act 4 Publishing founder Scott Dunbier said. “He went from a very good artist and then to a great one. But these new watercolors are something else entirely, they are extraordinary. He’s moved to another level. I can’t wait to see more.”
Circus of Bones: The Art of Mike Mignola will be in comic shops on November 25.
