
Pan’s Labyrinth 20th Anniversary Script & Creation Books
Pan’s Labyrinth, Guillermo del Toro’s gothic fairy tale, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in the fall of 2026. Insight Editions is publishing two books in partnership with del Toro in honor of the Oscar winning film’s anniversary. Pan’s Labyrinth: The Complete Screenplay and Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth: Inside the Creation of a Modern Fairytale – 20th Anniversary Edition will be out in September 2026.
The movie is set in post-Civil War Spain where a girl named Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) finds a hidden labyrinth filled with odd creatures. She is invited by a faun (Doug Jones) to complete three dangerous adventures to become an underworld princess and forever escape her cruel stepfather (Sergi López). The movie was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Makeup.
The Pan’s Labyrinth: The Complete Screenplay presents the full shooting script written by del Toro as well as imagery and behind the scenes content. It has a foreword by director Baz Luhrmann and anecdotes from film fans, screenwriting enthusiasts, and collectors.
“Accompanying the screenplay, the book features a wide range of materials from the film’s production, including specially commissioned new art by visual artist Tomás Hijo, original concept art and storyboards. From early visual designs to moments captured during filming, the book traces the development of the story’s characters, environments, and atmospheres, revealing how the film’s distinctive blend of fantasy and historical drama was brought to life,” per the description.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth: Inside the Creation of a Modern Fairytale – 20th Anniversary Edition is written by Mark Cotta Vaz, Nick Nunziata, and del Toro. The revised and expanded anniversary edition has new content, an in-depth look at the movie’s development, and it’s impact on pop culture. The book opens with a foreword by Steven Spielberg and a new preface by del Toro.
“To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of this acclaimed fantasy, Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth explores the film’s creative journey, from the director’s early ideas through casting, the challenging shoot, and the overwhelmingly positive critical response. Along with rare concept art and photography, there are exclusive insights from the director, the stars, the producers, and other key players involved in crafting this dark, thrilling masterpiece,” according to the synopsis.
Insight is also releasing a limited edition version of Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth: Inside the Creation of a Modern Fairytale. Each is bound in Svepa leatherette with gilded edges, gold foil, blind debossing, and they are in a debossed slipcase. The book is accompanied by four prints by Tomás Hijo that were produced for Insight, two facsimiles of concept art by Raúl Monge and Sergío Sandoval, and two facsimile pages by Esterh Gili from the film-used Book of Crossroads. The first 100 copies will be signed by del Toro; 400 unsigned copies will also be available. .
Both books are scheduled for release on September 8
