The Bride of Frankenstein is Alive in New Universal Monsters Comic
The Bride has come to life and will explore her bizarre creation in Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives. The four-issue comic is written by Kelly Thompson (Black Widow) and illustrated by Mattia De Iulis (The Cull), the creative team who have partnered on several titles including Absolute Wonder Woman. It comes from the publishing partnership between Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics with Universal Products & Experiences. The first issue will debut in time for Halloween in October 2026.
The Bride was brought to life during a thunderstorm through electricity, desperation, and body parts taken from other women. She doesn’t remember her past or understand how she came to be, but despite the unsettling and frightening circumstances she ventures into the world. Wanting to learn about the women she is made of, the Bride will explore her surroundings and try to avoid the dangers around her.
“The original Bride of Frankenstein is a brilliant film exploring the creature’s failed attempts to find friendship and community, and then the desperate act to force others to create that which he cannot find. What it’s not about, however, is how The Bride herself feels about her creation,” Thompson said. “Through The Bride of Frankenstein Lives we get the opportunity to explore not only her search for who and what she is, but her search for the women that were destroyed to create her – all brought to striking vivid life via Mattia De Iluis’s incredible visuals.”
“When I first read Kelly’s script, I knew right away this was going to be something special,” De Iulis said. “We are finally giving the Bride the center stage, she’s no longer someone’s property, she is a human being fighting for her own story. And for me, it’s an honor to translate that onto the page.”

The book is the eighth entry in the collaboration between Skybound and Universal that brings the classic Universal Monsters from the 1920s to ‘50s movies to life in comics. It began with Dracula by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds, then Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! by Ram V, Dan Watters, and Matthew Roberts, Frankenstein by Michael Walsh, The Mummy by Faith Erin Hick, The Invisible Man by Tynion and Dani, Phantom of the Opera by Tyler Boss and Simmonds, and new series Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man by Joshua Williamson and Leomacs.
“Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis have delivered the Bride story you’ve always wanted,” Skybound Editorial Director Alex Antone said. “This book is a reckoning. From Kelly’s fearless story, to Mattia’s gorgeous art, you won’t be able to put this comic down. And don’t forget to pick up Ryan Sook’s issue 1 Hairiant cover! Sorry, we just couldn’t help ourselves.”
Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives #1 is offered with a slate of covers, including cover A by De Iulis, cover B by Joshua Middleton, cover C by Artgerm, cover D (connecting) by Luana Vecchio, cover E (1:25 incentive) by Middleton, cover F (1:50 incentive) by Rosemary Valero O’Connell, cover G (1:75 incentive) by Christian Ward, cover H (1:100 foil incentive) by David Talaski, cover I blank sketch, cover J (foil) by Artgerm, and cover K (die cut, foil “hairiant”) by Ryan Sook.
