The Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters are celebrating 40 years in comics with the first comprehensive reprint collection from Dynamite Entertainment. The two-book omnibus is now seeking backers on Kickstarter.

Don Chin created the Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters in 1986, as a part of the wave of animal superhero books that both parodied and were inspired by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Their story began in 1977 when NASA sent four hamsters into space to destroy a gelatinous radioactive substance that was near Earth. They were mutated by what was dubbed “Cosmic Jello” and turned into three-and-half-foot tall anthropomorphic hamsters. Their capsule crashed near a Tibetan monastery, where they were adopted by the mystic warrior monk Master Lock. He taught them martial arts, and with their new skills and perspectives, the Hamsters returned to the US to fight crime.

Now for the book’s 40th anniversary, the title is being collected in two remastered volumes, both containing over 300 pages. They are available in paperback or hardcover, as well as a slipcase, and there are signed and remarqued editions.

Volume 1 includes Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters (1986) #1-9, Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters: Escape from New York, and Clint: Hamster Triumphant #1-2.

Volume 2 features Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters 3-D #1-4, Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters Massacre the Japanese Invasion, Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters: The Lost Treasures, and Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters (2008) #1-4. This collection comes with a pair of 3D glasses for better viewing of the 3-D miniseries.

Rewards start with a facsimile edition of ARBBH #1 for $20. Each of the two omnibus volumes are $30 in softcover and $50 in hardcover. The signed hardcover editions are $75 each, and the edition signed by Chin and artist Ken Haeser with a remarque by Haeser is $99 each. Several other reward levels are also available including sketches, holofoil limited editions, slipcase option, and more.

The campaign’s goal of $1,986 was quickly achieved and continues to climb steadily. The Kickstarter campaign ends on July 14, 2026.
