Jasper Sitwell is a top level S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, an expert in espionage, and a skilled marksman. He graduated from the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy at the top of his class, and went on to become an indispensable agent. Sitwell was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby who introduced him 60 years ago in Strange Tales #144 (May 1966).

At first, S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury and his second in command Dum Dum Dugan did not like the ambitious young agent. But his eagerness to get the job done right impressed Fury and Dugan, though they still teased him about being inexperienced and naïve. Fury guided Sitwell, eventually trusting him to act as director while Fury was in the field on his own missions.

He was assigned to be the liaison between S.H.I.E.L.D. and Stark Industries when the latter had defense contracts to manufacture equipment and weapons for S.H.I.E.L.D. In that capacity, Sitwell faced Spymaster (who nearly killed Sitwell), A.I.M., Grey Gargoyle, and other terrorists, assassins, and criminals.

Sitwell and other S.H.I.E.L.D. leadership was seemingly killed by a self-aware Life Model Decoy (LMD) and he was replaced by an LMD who was put in the position of executive director. Later, it was revealed that Sitwell was alive but had been brainwashed by Hydra and was sent on a mission to attack Fury. He was saved from Hydra’s control and the brainwashing was reversed.

After the events of the Skrull Secret Invasion, Sitwell was among the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who refused to join the H.A.M.M.E.R. organization founded and run by Norman Osborn. Instead, Sitwell and Dugan formed a paramilitary group to fight organizations like H.A.M.M.E.R., Hydra, and Leviathan.

He was killed while trying to protect Fury from a brainwashed Black Widow. Somehow Sitwell came back as a zombie and became part of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Special Threat Assessment for Known Extranormalities division, aka S.T.A.K.E. In this new form, Sitwell joined the LMD of Dum Dum Dugan and Martin Reyna to defeat Teen Abomination. He was also part of S.T.A.K.E.’s incarnation of the Howling Commandos.
