Archie x The Army of Darkness #4
Dynamite; $4.99
What could possibly be worse than being attacked by an army of Deadites? How about Deadites that are doppelgangers?!
Archie Andrews unintentionally summoned the Army of Darkness by reading a passage from the Necronomicon Ex Mortis. Fortunately, he didn't complete the incantation, so there's a chance to send them back their hellish home. That is if the Deadites don't get ahold of Archie first and force him to finish reading the incantation.
While Ash Williams tries to figure out how to end the assault from the Army of Darkness, Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Reggie are being attacked by the Deadite versions of themselves. They need weapons and a quiet place to determine their next move all while the Deadites assault the S-Mart. It's a wild night in Riverdale, to be sure.
The creative team are hitting the important notes in this crossover series. Erik Burnham has Ash's voice down, delivering jokes and sarcasm, and he's having fun with the teens from Riverdale. That's especially true when the living kids kill the Deadite versions and their reactions (just imagine all the times those kids have annoyed each other over the years).
Penciler Bill Galvan, inker Ben Galvan, and colorist Ellie Wright are also on their game in this series. The Archie characters are drawn in Archie Comics style, which is wild when they are brandishing weapons and covered in blood. For Ash, they give him a more realistic handsome mug and the Deadites are suitably creepy with glowing red eyes and rotten skin.
