The Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation has opened applications for the Macmillan Booksellers Professional Development Scholarship. It will provide $750 to booksellers that are often underrepresented to attend their region’s fall trade show.

“For 30 years, Binc has been a lifeline for booksellers when it matters most,” said Kelly Collins, VP, Communications & Community, Macmillan Publishers. “At Macmillan Publishers, we’re proud to partner on this scholarship, helping booksellers grow their careers, connect with one another, and deepen the impact they have in their communities.”

Eight booksellers will be chosen for the scholarship, which will cover travel, lodging, and meals up to $750. Applications are open through June 1, 2026.

There are three categories of eligibility for the Macmillan Booksellers Professional Development Scholarship. It is open to people of color, defined as those who are African/African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latin American, Middle Eastern, or Native American/Indigenous descent. People that identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, genderqueer, or queer are eligible. It is also open to people with disabilities, including but not limited to physical, sensory, cognitive, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, chronic conditions, and mental illnesses.

Applicants must be either a part-time or full-time employee at a bookstore for 90 continuous days. The bookstore needs to be a member in good standing of a regional trade association. Scholarship applicants must also inform their store owner/manager before applying to secure their support.
