The Rocketeer Movie 35th Anniversary Whiskey from IDW
It’s been 35 years since Billy Campbell donned a very cool mask and rocket pack to act as a superhero in The Rocketeer movie. Now, IDW is celebrating the 1991 film’s anniversary by partnering with Official Cellar on the Rocketeer American Whiskey.
“Once upon a time, America believed in heroes… the kind who flew by instinct, fought with honor, and kissed their girls before blasting into danger. The Rocketeer isn’t just a rocket-pack and a helmet…it’s a full-throttle love letter to courage, freedom, romance, and that spark of invention that makes us tick,” per the Official Cellar page. “This whiskey is built for the same spirit: bold, bright, and unapologetically adventurous. Pour a glass, tip your hat to the golden age of hangars and high-stakes heroics, and toast the people who light the fuse and go.”
Official Cellar describes the limited edition whiskey as “crafted with bold character and uncompromising resolve” in a bottle designed for pouring and display. Taking a step up from there, they are offering an edition featuring Campbell’s signature on the label.
Available as 86 proof wheated bourbon or hi-rye bourbon, the regular limited edition version is $60, and the Campbell-signed editions are $120 each. The Rocketeer movie 35th anniversary whiskey can be purchased directly from Official Cellar.
The Rocketeer began as a comic book character created by writer/artist Dave Stevens, who introduced him in Starslayer #1 (February 1982). Set before World War II and embracing art deco style, the series stars stunt pilot Cliff Secord who finds a jetpack and uses it to become the masked, flying hero, the Rocketeer. Stevens conceived the character as an homage to the heroes who appeared in movie serials of the 1930s to ‘50s.
Cliff appeared in a few issues of Pacific Comics’ Starslayer and the anthology series, Pacific Presents, then he appeared in one-shots and limited series from Eclipse, Comico, Disney, and Dark Horse. IDW got the character in 2009, releasing Rocketeer: The Complete Adventures, followed by multiple limited series, one-shots, and specials.

The movie is set in 1938 and follows his comic origin with Cliff Secord finding the rocket pack that he uses to become a flying hero. With the help of his mechanic, Peevy, the Rocketeer fights criminals and the Nazis who want the technology. He flees the FBI and the jet pack’s creator, Howard Hughes, and saves his girlfriend, Jenny, who was kidnapped by Nazis.
Campbell starred in the film with Alan Arkin as Peevy, Jennifer Connelly as Jenny Blake, Paul Sorvino as Eddie Valentine, Terry O’Quinn as Howard Hughes, and Timothy Dalton as Neville Sinclair.
