Marvel; $4.99

During a visit to her old Alias Investigations office, Jessica Jones the dead bodies of her neighbors, who had been marked with a weird symbol. She told her husband, the mayor of New York, that she wouldn’t investigate. Then Typhoid Mary showed up with proof that multiple killers are active in the Big Apple using the same brutal method of execution.

Jessica and Typhoid Mary begin their investigation by interrogating a man who has committed murder using the same symbol. That leads them to people who can get them closer to the Postcard King and an important piece of the strange puzzle. Things aren’t any easier on the homefront since Jessica is lying to Luke about the investigation while he’s at a political event in Florida.

The creative team of writer Sam Humphries, artist Geraldo Borges, and colorist Arhtur Hesli are packing a lot into each issue of Alias: Red Band. The case itself is quite intriguing with layers to this murderous network involving confused people and their string-pullers. The creators don’t waste any space with multiple panels on many pages that follow the conversation and expression changes during interviews.

The dynamic between Jessica and Mary is like a buddy cup duo if one of them is a murderer. Jessica is constantly trying to reel in Mary, while the latter wants to stab and make jokes. It makes for interesting reading and there’s an element of dark comedy in Mary’s reactions to Jessica.
