CBCS to Close in April 2026
Comic Book Certification Service (CBCS) third party comic book grading company is being shut down by new parent company, Collectors. The professional grading, authentication, and preservation company began in 2014, and grew to become the chief rival to the Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), which was founded in 2000.
Collectors owns Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) and acquired Beckett, the parent company of CBCS, in December 2025.
Per their announcement, Collectors will now focus on their Beckett brand for grading. They will continue to develop their trading card and autograph authentication, while also expanding their teams for other services. “These investments are focused on improving turnaround times, enhancing the customer experience, and strengthening the long-term value we provide to collectors,” per their announcement.
CBCS will stop accepting submissions on April 17, 2026. All existing orders and those received by that date will be fulfilled through the grading process. The CBCS Population Report that tracks graded comic data, like number of copies at each grade level, will remain open. All of the books graded by CBCS will continue to be documented and available in the database.
