Vault of Horror #12 (#1) CGC 9.4 Added to ComicLink Auction
ComicLink has added an extremely rare Near Mint example of Vault of Horror #12 (#1) CGC 9.4 to their upcoming Spring Featured Auction. The book is one of the most important Pre-code Horror comics published by EC and will be open for bidding on May 14, 2026.
This example is the highest grade that CGC has ever certified for Vault of Horror #12, and one of only two examples ever awarded this top grade. It also features Off-White to White Pages. Published in April 1950, Vault of Horror #1 ties with Crypt of Terror #17 as the first full-blown EC horror title, with Haunt of Fear #15 (#1) following the next month.

“It cannot be overstated how extremely unusual an offering this is – one could even go so far as to say a once in a generation offering. Until now, the finest example we’d ever offered in our three decades of operating ComicLink was a CGC 9.0 on just one occasion, and that was 13 years ago!” ComicLink founder and Managing Director Josh Nathanson said. “There are no CGC 9.2 examples of this issue, and only three have reached CGC 9.0. It is particularly important to point out that there is only one Gaines File Copy of this book, whereas other ECs have 12 Gaines File Copies. For this reason alone, Vault of Horror #1 is one of the rarest of the ECs in the Near Mint grading tier. This historic Pre-Code horror offering features a stunning torture rack cover by Johnny Craig, one of the top EC horror artists and the illustrator of every single cover in the Vault of Horror run! This book will make a crowning achievement in the finest EC or Pre-Code Horror collection!”

Their next auction consignment opportunity is the Focused Auction beginning on April 10, followed by the Spring Featured Auction starting on May 14. Much more will be added to these auction previews in the days and weeks to come.
