Geomancers, the Protectors of Earth
Geomancers are Earth’s protectors, chosen by the planet itself to be its guardians. Given the importance of their job, Geomancers are gifted with many incredible abilities. The Valiant characters can telepathically communicate with the Earth, have control over nature and the universe’s natural energy sources, they can read psychic impressions from living things and objects, and they can manipulate objects. Additionally, they also have the power of astral projection, clairvoyance, they can warp reality, fly, heal quickly, and have power of electromagnetism.

They were created by Jim Shooter and Don Perlin, who introduced them in Solar, Man of the Atom #10 (June 1992). Earth began choosing Geomancers in the year 3500 BC, with one person taking on the mantle at a time. When a Geomancer nears the end of his or her life, a new one is chosen and the former passes on the power through a self-sacrificial ritual known as Bagh-Nakh.
When Valiant comics were first published in the early 1990s Geoff McHenry became the Geomancer, even though he was just a kid at the time. Geoff was essentially just a normal boy until he gained the power of a Geomancer, which he used to help Valiant heroes fight the villains that were detrimental to the world.

Khanit was the first one chosen to be the Geomancer, followed by other notable early Geomancers like Tashi Khatun, Li-Sung, and Angelique D’Terre. Multiple members of the McHenry family have been Geomancers, including Geoff’s great uncle Buck McHenry, his uncle Clay McHenry, his niece Lucinda Mendez, and descendant Kay McHenry. Well known Geomancers that protect the Earth in the future are Yuri Pierce, Ana Kawainui, Rokland Tate, and Aram Anni-Padda (better known as Armstrong).
They have long been protected by Gilad Anni-Padda, aka the Eternal Warrior who was chosen by the planet to watch over its protectors. Geomancers have played crucial roles in many of Valiant’s important events like the birth of Magnus, Robot Fighter, the fight against the Darque Power, and the Unity Conflict, among others.
