Dan Slott to Pen New Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Marvel is returning to an influential period in Spider-Man’s recent history with a Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day series. The book will be written by celebrated Spider-Man writer Dan Slott and illustrated by Marcus To (X-Force), featuring covers by Phil Jimenez and Pat Gleason, and backup stories by artist Marcos Martin. The series will begin in May 2026.
Spider-Man finds Kingpin’s Lexicon, a directory of his criminal enterprises that the Wall Crawler wants to use to cripple New York City’s criminal empires. But his noble goal and what seemed like a good plan hit not one but three snags. Kingpin wants the valuable item back, Mr. Negative is interested in getting a peek at Kingpin’s secrets, and even the Punisher wants the Lexicon.

The “Brand New Day” storyline debuted in 2008, written by Slott and featuring art by multiple creators that included To, Jimenez, and Martin. The ongoing series redefined Spider-Man comics for the 21st century, running for nearly three years and containing over 100 issues. The series’ influence can still be seen in Spider-Man comics, 16 years after its completion.
“Spider-Man is my favorite character in all of fiction. Heart on my sleeve here – I love writing Spider-Man,” Slott said. “We’re going to reveal hidden secrets and plant explosive seeds that will pay off and affect what’s happening in Spider-Man’s world today! These will be stories that matter and that will have major consequences!
“We’ve got the killer art team of Marvel’s biggest secret weapon, Marcus To, and new shorts by the Inkpot Award-winning legend, Marcos Martin! With Marcus, this is going to be one of the best looking books on the stand, and with Marcos, we’re going to have these incredible short features that will ensure that new readers can jump right in, even if they’ve never read a Brand New Day issue!”
The first issue of Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be available in comic shops on May 13.
