Every classic Tales from the Crypt story is being collected into one book for the first time ever. The EC Archives: The Complete Tales from the Crypt from Dark Horse Books features all 46 issues of the original series, plus every cover, text piece, and illustration. It also contains forewords from previous editions written by John Carpenter, Bruce Campbell, and more. The book will be in stores in October 2026.

“Shiver from fright at the terrifying talents of Johnny Craig, Graham ‘Ghastly’ Ingels, Jack Davis, Wally Wood, Reed Crandall, and many more in over nine hundred pages of terror. From fiendish beginning to the frightening end, join us as we dig deep and delve into the history of the crypt!” per Dark Horse.

Tales from the Crypt was among EC’s most popular comics of the 1950s. It was a bimonthly horror anthology comic that quickly gained notoriety for its gruesome content. It went through a few titles from Crime Patrol to The Crypt of Terror before landing on Tales from the Crypt in issue 20 (October/November 1950).

In the anthology series, the Crypt-Keeper hosted chilling tales about murder, mayhem, and monsters. The book could be shocking with its unfiltered content and subverted readers’ expectations by ending with nasty twists.

It, along with other horror titles at EC, became the subject of scrutiny after Fredric Wertham’s book Seduction of the Innocent was published. Horror comics became the focus of blame for juvenile delinquency, leading to the birth of the Comics Code Authority and death of horror comics (for a time).

Tales from the Crypt has been collected in multiple different editions over the years, though never in one volume like the new Dark Horse EC Archive.

EC Archives: The Complete Tales from the Crypt is a hardcover tome that is packed with 1,032 pages and retails for $149.99. It will be in comic shops on October 13.
