Reggie Bannister the actor who played the tough hero Reggie in the Phantasm movie franchise is entering the spotlight again for his own comic series, Catching Hell. The book will debut as part of American Mythology’s tenth anniversary celebration and is set to begin in May 2026.

“In Catching Hell, Reggie doesn’t play a superhero. He plays something far deadlier: an everyday guy who refuses to die. Armed with grit, scars, and a lifetime of bad decisions, he hunts down renegade demons that slipped through the cracks – because someone has to do the dirty work. It’s loud. It’s brutal. It’s funny in the way only horror fans understand. And it proudly wears the DNA of drive-in grindhouse, midnight movies, and the kind of monsters that don’t sparkle,” per American Mythology’s description.

The series is co-written by S.A. Check and James Kuhoric using their decades of horror storytelling for the new series. It features interior art by Emanuele Tommarelli that will evoke classic horror magazines and exploitation films, according to the description.

“Reggie is the soul of blue collar horror,” Check said. “He’s not destiny bound. He’s not chosen. He’s just the guy still standing when the smoke clears. This book exists to celebrate that spirit – to let Reggie cut loose, crack skulls, and remind everyone why he’s a legend.”

American Mythology will launch a Kickstarter campaign for the book, featuring exclusive covers, unique printings, collectible trading cards, and other limited rewards.

A portion of the proceeds from the book will be donated to Bannister to help with his healthcare.

The first issue is expected to be available on May 27.
