Hake’s hit another high mark in comic sales when they sold a CGC 9.6 copy
of All Winners #1 for $95,200. According to the CGC Census, this was the
highest graded copy they have seen. The book contains the first appearance of
the All Winners Squad. They appear in a text story by Stan Lee. Carl Burgos,
Jack Kirby, Joe Simon and Bill Everett all contributed stories and art to the
book.

Published by Timely Comics, the book bears a cover date of Summer
1941. The All Winners Squad would later go on to reveal themselves in
appearances in other Timely titles. The publisher would grow to eventually
become the fascinating giant we now call Marvel.

Hake’s has been offering
comics for almost as long as they have been in existence (forty years!). The
past few years have seen an upswing in the listing of CGC graded comics. The
sale of the All Winner is appositive indicator for not only the hobby, but
future auctions as well.

Scoop has featured other results from the
Hake’s Auction, which ended on June 29, 2006, elsewhere in this week’s auction
section. For complete details on the big event, please visit http://www.hakes.com/default.asp.
