After launching their Fall Mini/Major auction last week, eMoviePoster.com follows it up this week with 899 folded one-sheets spanning all years and genres. Some of the top offerings include Orson Welles’ 1947 epic The Lady From Shanghai, which features an incredible, lush, full-length illustration art of Rita Hayworth (Welles wrote, produced, directed and co-starred).
Also are the docket is Clint Eastwood’s 1973 western High Plains Drifter, in which Eastwood both starred and directed, as well as 1943’s Crystal Ball, which started Paulette Goddard and Ray Milland), the 1937 version of A Star Is Born (William Wellman, Janet Gaynor and Fredric March) and Leather Burners (style A), a particularly cool piece featuring William Boyd as Hopalong Cassidy.
Part I of their special Fall Mini/Major auction brought in just under $80,000, exceeding estimates. Topping the list of notables was the 1932 Danish version of Blue Light, featuring Erik Frederiksen’s illustration of star-director Leni Riefenstahl sold for $7,050.
“This is likely a world record price for a Danish poster, but certainly this one deserves it, as it is both an important piece of film history and has a wonderful image!” said the company’s Bruce Hershenson.
Also commanding attention was the 1934 Danish version of Gay Divorcee featuring previously undocumented art of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, which went for $5,350
A 1951 Belgian version of the cult favorite The Man From Planet X brought in $1,725.
