Three upscale Bergen County, New Jersey estates are at the forefront of Sterling Associates’ October 28, 2015 Fall Auction of fine art and antiques. A special highlight is a 40-lot selection of exquisite European and American antique and studio glass. Absentee and online bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The Wednesday evening online/phone/absentee auction will follow the same blueprint that owner Stephen D’Atri has implemented since first opening the doors to his brick-and-mortar business: offering absolutely fresh art and antiques from exclusive homes and estates.

“We’re fortunate to be located where we are and to have connections that bring us quality estates from around the tri-state area,” D’Atri said. “We’re particular about what we sell, and it must be obvious, because we’ve developed a loyal clientele worldwide. We ship to buyers in more than a dozen countries, and many of them become repeat customers.”

Asian antiques are always popular in Sterling’s sales. The October 28 auction includes a stunning and highly important Chinese Qing Dynasty famille rose plate, dating to 1723-1735 (Yongzheng). The 7-3/4-inch plate hand-painted with a floral and butterfly motif is estimated at $30,000-$50,000.

A pair of 19th century Ming-style wood chairs, possibly huanghuali wood are of a horseshoe-back design with solid rectangular seats and elegantly curved front and side aprons. They are offered as a pair with an estimate of $2,000-$3,000.

Several outstanding paintings have been cataloged, including a Kazuya Sakai (Argentinean, 1927-2001) modern acrylic-on-canvas work measuring 62 by 54 inches. It is signed, dated and titled on verso: Kazuya Sakai ‘Homecoming’ 1973. Estimate: $6,000-$9,000.

Crafted in the classical style, a circa-1890 petra dura gueridon features an Art Nouveau bronze pedestal base that terminates on three sculpted dolphins resting on a black marble base. The tastefully executed table is expected to make $5,000-$6,000.

The art and studio glass selection includes decorative pieces, lighting, sculpture, vases, bowls, stemware and service ware from such renowned makers as Lalique, Baccarat, Steuben, Tiffany Studios, Daum Nancy, Galle, St. Lambert and many others. Among the Tiffany highlights is a bronze and blown-glass Harp lamp with original iridescent shade marked LCT Favrile. The base bottom is marked Tiffany Studios New York 613. The auction estimate on this lovely lamp is $3,000-$5,000.

Made by the esteemed Austrian company Loetz, an amber iridescent Phaenomen art glass vase is decorated with applied swirling teardrops with iridescent striations. It stands 9-1/4 inches high and is marked on the bottom: Loetz Austria. Estimate: $3,000-$5,000.
